We know our families and community have questions following the incident at Warner Robins High School on August 12. This page will be updated as additional information becomes available. Our goal is to provide accurate information while respecting the ongoing law enforcement investigation and the privacy of our students.

When will Warner Robins High School students return to school?
Students returned to Warner Robins High School on Monday, August 17. Our focus is on welcoming students back to a supportive learning environment.

What additional safety measures will be in place when students return?
There will be an increased School Resource Officer presence on campus, along with additional staff monitoring hallways and common areas throughout the school day. District and school leaders have also been reviewing campus procedures, supervision, access, and other safety measures to identify what can be strengthened immediately and what additional measures are most appropriate moving forward.

Is Warner Robins High School safe for students to return?
The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our number one priority. We have multiple safety measures in place throughout our district, and we continually evaluate those measures with our law enforcement partners. We have a responsibility to look again at our procedures and systems to determine what we can strengthen, not only at Warner Robins High School, but across our district.

What happened when the shooting occurred?
Our emergency procedures were activated when a staff member activated their emergency alert badge. Students and staff followed the safety protocols they have practiced, and law enforcement responded immediately. Warner Robins High’s School Resource Officer was able to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured student until EMS arrived. We are extremely grateful for the response of our students, staff, law enforcement officers, and other first responders.

Does Warner Robins High School have School Resource Officers?
Yes. School Resource Officers are assigned to Warner Robins High School. There will also be an increased law enforcement presence as students return to campus.

Does Warner Robins High School use metal detectors or weapons-detection systems?
Warner Robins High School does not currently use walk-through metal detectors for students entering school each day. On August 20, the district announced plans to purchase metal detection systems as part of continued efforts to strengthen safety and security across the district. The metal detectors will be used at all middle and high schools, as well as stadiums and competition gyms. The district anticipates delivery within approximately four to eight weeks and will use that time to develop procedures, determine placement, and prepare for implementation. What other safety measures are currently in place?
Our schools use multiple layers of safety and security, including School Resource Officers, controlled access, staff supervision, emergency response procedures, emergency alert technology, and security cameras in common areas.

Will there be additional supervision at school?
Yes. Students will see additional adult supervision throughout the school, including increased monitoring of hallways and common areas.

What support will be available for students who are struggling with what happened?
We recognize that students may process this experience differently. Additional counselors and support staff will be available to students and staff. Students who need support are encouraged to speak with a teacher, counselor, administrator, or another trusted adult at school. Parents who have specific concerns about their child are encouraged to contact the school so we can help connect them with appropriate support.

What if my child is anxious or afraid to return?
It is understandable that some students may have questions or concerns about returning to school. Our staff will be ready to welcome and support students as they return. If your child has a specific concern, please contact the school so we can connect them with the appropriate team members.

Where should families look for updates?
Important information will continue to be shared directly with Warner Robins High School families through our normal communication channels. This FAQ will also be updated when new information is available.
