This competition book club is in conjunction with a state-wide competition called the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl for elementary, middle, and high school reading teams. There are region bowls, The 1st and 2nd place teams from Region move on to the Division bowl and then 1st place at Division goes on to the State bowl competition at The University of Georgia in Athens during the Children's Literature Conference in March.
The Scorchin' Scholars team has won several Region, Division, and State competitions. This club has helped renew an interest in reading at WRHS. It is exciting to see how many books are checked out by team members and even non-club members. Our club loves to talk about their book-list each year and that brings in students who hear about the new books.
The team meetings are held on Wednesday afternoons in the Media Center. If you like to read, consider joining this exciting team next year!
